Local Trails

D Mountain (Lookout Mountain)

These are the easiest trails to access from downtown Del Norte. There is a variety of beginner to intermediate terrain comprising about 7 miles of trail. You can create many loops to keep this terrain fun and diverse.

Middle Frisco

Middle Frisco is our quintessential forest ride in Del Norte. It climbs up through the aspens and spruce/fir forest up into the Frisco Lakes basin above treeline giving you incredible views out into the San Luis Valley. The trailhead is located at the end of San Francisco Creek Rd and make sure to take the single track off to the left crossing a creek right at the start. You gain about 2500 ft in elevation over the course of 6.2 miles and then get to turn around and enjoy the epic descent back to your car.

Lime Kiln

This trail system provides scenic riding for all skill levels. It is a very large area with single tracks spread around connected by double tracks. You can spend hours out here pedaling around to find all the fun single tracks.

Stone Quarry

Stone Quarry trail system is short drive from Del Norte comprised of mostly intermediate to advanced trails. There are two old quarries that provided stone to the town that are still seen today. The terrain is rocky and provides a lot of fun natural features connected by both single and double track.

Pronghorn

The main trailhead is located 1.8 miles out San Francisco Creek Rd. but you can access this loop straight out of one of the downtown trailheads to add a couple miles. This is an intermediate 8 mile loop in the high desert with big views of the San Luis Valley and South San Juans. This trail does have a winter elk closure, it is open for riding May 1st-December 31st.

Penitente Canyon

This area is a very unique area to ride around with trails ranging from beginner to expert. The beginner trails are out in the rolling hills of sagebrush whereas the expert trails take you back into the canyons and rock formations with drops, rock jumps and flowy singletrack.

Gravel

There is an endless amount of gravel roads all over the San Luis Valley that are great for scenic touring of all skill levels. You can stick to the base of valley for mostly flat rides or ventures into the foothills and mountains for some more exciting terrain. Ask us about some of our favorite local loops.

Treasure Mountain

Head to the top of Wolf Creek Pass for a 3600 ft, 9 mile descent down the west side of the pass towards Pagosa Springs. On this remote trail through the southern San Juans, you will pass by burn zones, creeks and lush pastures down into the high desert.
